The colours of the rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow,

blue birds fly.

And the dreams that you dreamed of,

really do come true.

I love to sing “over the rainbow” in the shower {some may not call it singing ;) }.  And when I get out of the shower I like to slip on the perfect sandal that comes in a rainbow of colours.

And when I say perfect, I mean perfect for some pretty specific things.  Walking to the pool, taking a shower at the gym, popping outside in the rain, walking around in the hotel room, and most important; on an airplane.

You know when you are on a long flight and really need to take your shoes off because your feet swell?  I know, it’s a dilemma. How am I going to get my shoes back on, what if I have to go to the bathroom, what if my feet get cold.  Well don’t despair, I have the perfect solution.

Eva, by Birkenstock, the perfect solution sandal.  Comfortable, easy to get on and off, adjustable and comes in a rainbow of colours.

I have an assortment of fun colours but always take the basic black on the airplane, they just go with everything.

Best of all Eva is waterproof, washable, super lightweight and easy to carry in a bag or pack in your suitcase.

Are you a fan of Nut Butters?

Have you been shopping in the nut butter section lately? Wow, it’s a whole new world out there in the ground-nut isle.

There are so many different kinds of nut and seed butters on the market now.

I like to dip my apple slices into creamy almond butter, but after standing in the nut-butter section for half an hour staring at rows and rows of jars, I thought I would try something new.

Decisions, decisions, there were so many choices. Cashew butter, seed butter, nut and seed butter, quite the tasty dilemma.

I chose a few because I couldn’t decide between creamy, nutty or seedy.  I picked up a chocolate one as well because what day doesn’t need chocolate (not even a question).

Now if you want a real peanut butter blast without most of the fat, try some dehydrated peanut butter.  Throw a spoonful in your smoothy, stir some into yogurt, the possibilities are endless.

Here’s a handy guide to compare some basic nut butter.

Be a little nutty.

Need More Organisation? Check this Out!

“Where the #&C@ is my Tupperware container?

It has to be here somewhere, I have gone through every drawer, grrrrrrr, why do I have 6 lids and 4 different size bottoms, and this stupid drawer won’t close.

tupperware .jpg

Shit, did I forget to bring it home?”

Well pardon the swear words, but I am sure you have said the same thing.

I know this because I am pretty sure you have taken something to a potluck in a coveted, expensive container and forgot to bring it home.

Yes, we call the next day to make sure it is there, of course it is, but realistically when are we going to get it back?  NEVER!

This is why I have come up with a new plan, no more worrying about leaving expensive containers anywhere.

I have switched to using what I call the “perfect containers”.

These containers, stack, are reusable, dishwasher and microwave safe, come in a variety of sizes, and amazingly all use the same size lid.   And Northwest Culinary Academy in Vancouver where I take cooking classes use these for their organisation too!

Best of all they are inexpensive and travel well.  You won’t even care that it doesn’t make the return flight home.

Be organized,

Valentine’s dinner, for everyone you LOVE!

February 14, Valentine’s Day, Feast of St. Valentine.

Here’s a little history:

Valentines originated as a feast day honoring early saints named Valentinus.

The day first became associated with romantic love in the 14th century. In the 18th-century it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").

History tells us that on February 14 we should be feasting and eating confections, let's do that!

Set a beautiful table, make a delicious meal, sip a glass of wine and enjoy the company of your love, your family, or a friend.  Feel the love, enjoy the feast.

Be Mine table scape with felt heart 2-2.jpg

I remember Valentine’s day in 1994, I set the table with the ‘special’ china and the silverware and made pasta with seafood for our feast.  It was a special time for us, we were newly married and just became parents.

If you need some inspiration, here’s what I suggest for your feast:

Arugula, Pear + Goat Cheese with Pomegranate Vinaigrette

Pasta with prawns and herbs in a creamy rose sauce

Chocolate truffles

All you need is love, love, love is all you need.

Be loved.

Do You Like Green Eggs + Ham?

“I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am.”

-       Dr. Seuss

Well I can’t say I like green eggs and ham either, but I do love a perfectly poached egg, a cup of coffee and a good book.

Reading is the perfect escape for me. I enjoy spending by myself and reading gives me the chance to curl up by the fireplace and spend time away from daily distractions.

I love that books are so versatile.  I have a stack piled high and reach for the one that I am in the mood for at that moment.

Do I feel like learning something new today, do I want to laugh, cry, be inspired or just enjoy the pure escapism from an easy to read romance?

When my eyes are feeling heavy, and reading seems like a bit too much of a chore, I love listening to audiobooks.  I just sit back and relax let someone else read to me.

I also love to listen to audiobooks in the car and on a power walk.  It’s a great way to catch up on the latest book while you are stuck in traffic, on a roadtrip or getting your fitness on, multi-tasking at its best.

Whether it’s reading or listening to books, I encourage you to join the great escape.

Here are the links to some of my favourite books + most of them come in the Kindle + audible versions.

4 Great Ways To Start a Wellness Ritual

It’s 2018 and the party’s over!  Well maybe only for a week or two (wink, wink)

In the meantime let’s do some wellness stuff.

Let’s start with breakfast.

Smoothies are a quick breakfast, but there are benefits to eating whole fruits and vegetables.

It takes the body longer to break down the fibre in whole foods and fibre keeps you fuller longer.

But if you love your morning smoothie, good news, you can have your smoothie and eat it too.

A smoothie bowl!  Your favourite smoothie topped with whole fruits, nuts, seeds or anything you love to chew.  Try some chia seeds or cocoa.

Adding in supplements to your day will work in conjunction with your nutrition to enhance your cellular nutrition. Which builds on your overall health regime. The quality of supplementation is important.  I have partnered with a company because of their continuous product innovation and strict manufacturing policies. Plus, these products are trusted by professional athletes, Olympians and everyday people who believe health is a vital part of a long and happy life.

Here are a couple of my favourites : Multi-vitamin + Vitamin D + Omega 3 + Melatonin

Its mid-day and you are feeling the "back to the routine" slump.

Conscious breathing reduces stress and raises energy levels by delivering oxygen to all the cells in your body.

Try this 60-second breathwork exercise

At the end of the day, take a long, relaxing, soothing bath. The kind of bath that that gives you the feeling of floating in the warm ocean on a beautiful summer evening.

lady in bath.jpg

A salt bath is a great ritual, take 20 minutes for yourself and relax and rejuvenate.  You are worth it!

Salt Bath Recipe:

1/4 cup Sea salt

1/4 cup Epsom salt

Essential oil {I use 10 drops lavenderpeace or serenity}

Salt Bath Instructions:

Dissolve Salt, Epsom salt, in boiling water in a quart size jar and set aside. Fill tub with warm/hot water.
Pour salt mixture into the bath water and add essential oils

Did you know?

The human body can defend itself against the occasional indulgence, because it has a built in detox system.

To maintain the body’s self-cleaning system, give it what it needs; a healthy diet, adequate water, regular exercise and sufficient sleep.

So cool. Love that!

Be Well,
